Goalless on Wearside:

Leeds’ defensive line once again delivered FPL managers solid returns with our showing in Gameweek 8. James Trafford (£5.0m) topped the pile among his colleagues, collecting 10 points for his clean sheet, a save point, the maximum of three bonus points, and his two appearance points for completing 90 minutes. Trafford has earned save points in all but one of his games this campaign, and has two double-digit returns to his name.

Following his assist in Gameweek 7, Tarik Muharemović (£5.1m) scored nine points last time out against Sunderland, with his clean sheet, one bonus point, two Defensive Contribution points and two appearance points. Defenders are awarded two extra points in FPL if they complete 10 or more defensive actions (clearances, blocks, interceptions and tackles won) in a single game.

Jaka Bijol (£5.0m) also picked up Defensive Contribution returns and finished on eight points for the game, while Gabriel Gudmundsson (£4.5m) and James Justin (£4.5m) finished with six points apiece.

Player Spotlight: Tarik Muharemović (£5.1m)

Muharemović is becoming a real force in FPL. Over the course of the season so far, he has returned in every single game, with the exception of Gameweek 6. It is the kind of consistency that FPL managers love to have in their teams and will surely lead to an increase on his current 5.6 per cent ownership across the game.

What makes the Bosnian international such an exciting prospect in FPL is the many areas in which he collects points. The centre-half has two assists in eight league games, which is the joint-most in the Leeds squad this season, while his six headed goal attempts from set plays is a team high, and suggests he could find himself on the scoresheet in the near future.

At the other end of the pitch, Muharemović has hit the threshold for Defensive Contribution points in five of the eight games to date, earning himself 10 extra points across the season for defensive actions alone. With a total of 43 points, Tarik is Leeds’ second-highest scorer in the game right now and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him competing for top spot among his team-mates come the end of the season.

Best of the rest:

Arsenal’s Gabriel (£7.9m) was the highest scorer of Gameweek 8, registering 17-points. He scored a goal, picked up a clean sheet, hit the defensive contribution threshold and was awarded three bonus points in his side’s win against Everton.

His defensive colleague Ezri Konsa (£4.7m) also scored well. He earned himself 14-points due to his goal, a clean sheet and finishing just behind Gabriel on two bonus points. Completing the top three was Aston Villa’s Nicolas Jackson (£6.7m). He netted twice against Manchester City and was awarded three bonus points, finishing the game with 13 points. He is also the most transferred in player ahead of Gameweek 9 at the time of writing.
