Leeds United were unable to snap Bournemouth's winning streak at the Vitality Stadium, suffering a 2-0 defeat on the road.
Prior to kick-off, Daniel Farke and his opposite number Marco Rose carried wreaths out of the tunnel and laid them pitchside. The two teams then observed a moment of silence, followed by a rendition of The Last Post, with it being the home club’s dedicated Remembrance match.
With the sun shining on the south coast, Leeds made a strong start and just after the 10-minute mark thought they had the lead. An excellent free-flowing team move saw Harry Wilson and Jayden Bogle combine, before the full-back found Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the box to turn home. However, VAR intervened and ruled the goal out for handball from the United’s no. 9. Moments later, Wilson decided to go himself and struck just wide of the post as Leeds remained on top.
Despite Leeds looking livelier it was the hosts who took the lead. Justin Kluivert pounced on a loose ball and was able to square it to teammate Evanilson, to tap home and put the Cherries ahead.
In five minutes of added on time at the end of the half, Wilson’s shot from a free-kick was just over the bar and the hosts went down the tunnel with a one-goal advantage.
HALF TIME: AFC Bournemouth 1-0 Leeds United
Neither team had made a change to their starting XI’s at the break and Leeds continued to look a threat on the wings. James, linked up with Wilson and Jayden Bogle, to push the side forward in the early stages.
At the opposite end, the trio of Rayan, Evanilson and Kluivert continued to threaten too, but no major chances had come in front of goal for either side by the hour mark.
With the Whites still a goal behind, Farke opted to make a triple change. Sean Longstaff, Anton Stach and Lukas Nmecha entered the action in place of Gabriel Gudmundsson, Ao Tanaka and James.
Leeds controlled much of the possession with James Justin moving to left-back, meaning an extra player was now in midfield.
Longstaff looked the most dangerous initially. His forward runs and energy allowed him to get on the ball high up the pitch on more than one occasion and look to create openings. Stach then got involved with a free-kick that went over the bar and a shot from the edge of the area that drifted wide.
But the goal, when it came in stoppage time, was at the other end of the pitch. Bournemouth won the ball, charged into the final third and Amine Adli was played into the box to slot home the second.
