Gudmundsson named Hisense Player of the Match in FA Cup victory

Leeds United supporters voted Gabriel Gudmundsson as their Hisense Player of the Match following the Whites’ impressive 3-0 victory over Norwich City in the Emirates FA Cup Fifth Round at Elland Road.

The defender delivered a standout performance as Daniel Farke’s side booked their place in the Quarter-Finals, playing 87 minutes before being replaced by Sam Byram late in the contest.

Gudmundsson played a decisive role in two of Leeds United’s goals during a dominant first-half display. The Swedish international first turned provider in the 32nd minute, hooking a pass to Sean Longstaff, who spun and volleyed home a stunning opener to ignite Elland Road.

Just before the break, Gudmundsson added his name to the scoresheet. Timing his run well inside the area, the defender finished confidently in the 43rd minute to double the Whites’ advantage heading into half-time.

Across his 87 minutes on the pitch, Gudmundsson produced an all-action display. He recorded 75 touches and completed 34 passes, while also contributing strongly in defensive areas with five defensive actions, including one tackle, two clearances, and two recoveries.

The defender also proved influential going forward, winning seven duels, creating two key chances, and carrying the ball 16 times for a total distance of 216.5 metres. He registered two shots, with one on target, which resulted in his goal.

Following the final whistle, supporters voted Gudmundsson as their standout performer, claiming 70% of the vote in the Hisense Player of the Match poll.

Midfielder Sean Longstaff, who opened the scoring with a spectacular strike, finished second with 8%, while Lukas Nmecha (5%) and Willy Gnonto (4%) completed the top four.

It proved a memorable FA Cup night for the Swedish defender, whose goal and assist helped send the Whites safely through to the next stage of the competition for the first time in 23 years.
