Leeds United Women are delighted to announce three new signings on deadline day, as Ruby Dawson, Leah Iglesias and Sophie Bentley are added to Simon Wood's squad for the last six games of the FA WNL Division One North campaign.
Ruby Dawson
Before this season, Ruby Dawson had played 90 games for Hull City Ladies across four seasons, including playing a part of the title-winning team that won the FA WNL Division One North in the 2023/24 season. Previously, Ruby played at Leeds United Girls Academy for the Under-16s.
Speaking after signing, the defender said: "I've been playing football since I was around seven years old, and I've been carrying it on. I was at Leeds Academy, in the Shadow Squad and Under-16s when I was younger, so I already know quite a few of the players and the manager, which is nice.
"Then when I went into women's, I was playing for Hull City Ladies, which I was there for a few years but, because I moved to university last year it took a bit more time, so I had to step away. But I'm glad I've got this new opportunity now to come back to Leeds and show what I've got.
"It's really exciting. I think putting on a badge for any team really is is something special, and I think because I've already got a bit of history with the club, to come back nearly four years later is something that I can be proud of and I am really excited to get some minutes for Leeds United and pushing for promotion.
"Getting promoted with Hull City was something that I'd never thought I'd have achieved when I was younger. It was something really, really exciting. If Leeds can do that and we can do that as a team. I know the feeling, I know how much happiness and joy it brings and if we do get promoted to get to that next stage.
Leah Iglesias
Leah Iglesias is an American attacking player who is also studying at Leeds Beckett University where she has just won the BUCS Women's Northern Tier 1, securing the top goalscorer accolade with 15. The forward played at University level in America before making the switch to West Yorkshire, and welcomes the opportunity to put on the white shirt.
"I'm excited to play with Leeds United and to gain that competitive side and just really to get after it," she commented.
"To describe me as a player, I would say I'm hard working and very, very competitive. I think that playing in America, I always played at high speed. It was the athletic side of the game, but I've really enjoyed coming over here and working more on the technical side because I think that the style of play here is more settled down and play really good quality football."
On playing in front of the Whites' faithful: "I think that's the beauty of the game. It brings so many different people together and to be able to play in front of so many people and know that I'm playing for something bigger than myself is really exciting.
"It's really about just filling in the role that they need for me, raising the level, bringing competition within trainings, within matches and just providing as much as I can to the team so that they can reach their goal and be promoted for next season.
Sophie Bentley
Sophie Bentley has joined from York City Ladies, and had been at the club since Under-10s level after coming through the academy. She represented England colleges this season, and despite only been 17 years old, she has made 24 appearances for York.
"I'm a really attacking player with lots of energy and I can't wait to be able to play for Leeds, and hopefully bring something to the team to help with the promotion push," the midfielder said.
"I can't wait to have to be able to play and hear the crowd cheering us on and start to get to know all the fans. I think it's a really great opportunity and a step in the next direction for me to advance my playing.
"My personal goal is to be able get minutes, get to know the girls really well, be able to play football and then help towards hopefully winning the league, which would be amazing both for the club, but also personally to be able to see my progress and my hard work pay off."
Everyone at Leeds United Women would like to welcome the trio to the club, and look forward to seeing them in action at the Bannister Prentice Stadium.
