Preview: AFC Bournemouth vs Leeds United

Whites to face Cherries.

Dean Court Bournemouth

Leeds United will travel down to the south coast on Wednesday night as they face AFC Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium, looking to take another step towards securing their Premier League status.

Continuing their unbeaten run at the weekend, the Whites recorded back-to-back wins for the first time this season and are aiming to continue their strong run of form in the top-flight.

On Saturday afternoon against Wolves, it was defender James Justin who opened the scoring through a stunning bicycle kick, shortly before Noah Okafor latched onto a low cross towards the back post from Brenden Aaronson to double the lead at Elland Road.

Following a closely fought second half, the result was capped off with a Dominic Calvert-Lewin penalty which was fired into the bottom left corner, sending opposition goalkeeper Daniel Bentley the wrong way.

Last time out away from home, Leeds recorded a historic win over rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford, with an Okafor brace proving too much for Michael Carrick’s side to take all three points come back to West Yorkshire.

In the reverse fixture, the spoils were shared as Joe Rodon’s near post header was cancelled out by a strike from Antoine Semenyo before the interval.

The second half was a similar story, with Andoni Iraola’s side rescuing a point after Eli Junior Kroupi’s goal late into stoppage time cancelled out Sean Longstaff’s half-volley from the edge of the area.

Bournemouth come into the clash following a victory away at St. James’ Park, where goals from Adrien Truffert and Marcus Tavernier sealed the victory on Tyneside as they target European football next season.

The Cherries also come into the tie after recording back-to-back wins, with an impressive performance against league leaders Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium being rewarded when Alex Scott slotted in the winner at the death.

Over the decades, Leeds have faced Wednesday night’s opponents a total of 16 times, winning 11 of those matches and drawing on three occasions.

The view from inside the camp:

Speaking exclusively to Premier League Productions, Jayden Bogle said: “It is a different challenge like all the teams in this league. It will be another tough game but it is just about focusing on us and doing the right things to give ourselves the best chance.

“I think the best thing is to keep playing games as it keeps the confidence high and also keeps the belief high. We go into the next game giving the best we can and then put that game behind us and go into the next one. I think that is all you can do at this stage to keep ticking over.”
