Speaking to LUTV after Leeds United Women’s 4-0 triumph over Chorley, boss Simon Wood was impressed with how well his squad returned to action after a lengthy spell since their last fixture.
Goals from Ellie White, Chloe Dixon, Brittany Sanderson and Sian Gibrill-Keating fired United to all three points in Lancashire and with it, the team now sit top of the FA WNL Division One North table.
“It feels really good,” Wood explained. “We haven’t played a game of football for what feels like an eternity since the Christmas break.
“We have had two games called off and coming over to Chorley on a Thursday night when the players have been at work all day is not easy.
“We have put in a really, really good display but I think the really pleasing thing from us in terms of the team today is I think you have seen a few sides of our game.
“You have seen when we have had the space to play how quickly we can play. I think the first goal is a really good example of that.
“At times in the second half, we knew we would have to defend because Chorley are a good side. They have not lost many games in the league this year. You can see from the quality they have got and how they play the game.
“So, we knew we would have to defend but I think the work rate and the effort, the levels the players put into defending that second half, they got their rewards at the end.
“It is a 4-0 performance away from home in a very competitive league so the players should be really proud of themselves this evening.”
