Leeds United Women fell to a narrow defeat in front of 4,000 fans at Elland Road in their final home game of the FA WNL Division One North season.
After his side faced Norton & Stockton Ancients in front of the Leeds faithful, Simon Wood praised the support his players received throughout the game.
“The support we had today was brilliant. The crowd backed us really well, and we are really grateful to everyone who came out to watch us.
“It is always a great occasion, and people will have seen today that we are a team that puts all the effort in. Sadly, we did not quite get the result we wanted.
“Hopefully it has inspired some of the younger supporters who were there and have come to their first Leeds United Women’s game.”
Reflecting on the game, the boss said: “We started slowly, but sometimes you have got to make your own luck in this game, and we did not do enough today, probably, to earn the victory.
“There is some real frustration within the group after the game, and the players are disappointed because it is a big occasion.”
Addressing the supporters, Wood said: “Thank you so much for coming today. Hopefully we will see more supporters attend the matches we play.
“There is frustration at the minute, but once we dust ourselves off, we will take great pride in being able to represent the club at Elland Road.”
