Leeds United defeated York City through goals from Amy Woodruff and Drew Greene in midweek FA WNL Division One North action on Wednesday.
Amy Woodruff converted a selfless assist from Ellie White into an empty net, with Drew Greene closing the tie with a strike deep into added time.
After the game, Simon Wood spoke to LUTV. He said: “Pleased with the three points. In the last six games before today, we have played some really good football, and we have played well and at times, we really dominated possession.
“Today was about making sure we got the victory, first of all. I think we started very similar. We started the last few games where we're creating chances, and it's just quite not falling for us.
“We are playing some good football, we are creating chances, but we got three points, so we are pleased with it and we will move onto Sunday now.”
Speaking on the importance of Drew Greene’s late goal: “Really important. We want to score as many goals as we can.
“It might help us towards the end of the season if we need it with goal difference, depending on where we finish in the league. So the extra goal helps.
“What was important as well was the clean sheet, because in the last batch of games, we have not kept enough of those. We have limited teams to chances where they have had one or two chances and they've scored.
“It sets us up now, the players can have a little bit of rest, and then we are going into Sunday full of confidence.”
On the new signings: “When Sophie is playing against her old team and she worked hard in training last night and you could see her qualities. She is very young, but she is fearless, and we thought we need a little change in that.
"You saw a display of the quality that she has for someone so young, but having that composure to find that pass, it's probably what we need."
Looking ahead to Durham at the weekend: “We are feeling good. Durham are the form team at the minute and they have had a slow start to the season, but they have picked up massively and you can really see that in their performances.
“We know it is going to be a tough game. We know the quality that they bring, so we know Sunday's going to be another close game, but we also know that with the football we are playing, we will take the game to them and hopefully get the three points.”
