Towering high to head a dangerous Bosnia and Herzegovina delivery into the top corner was Tarik Muharemović, helping his country to a 4-2 victory over Romania.

The goal – the centre-half’s second for the side to date – doubled the advantage for Sergej Barbarez’s team and saw them on the way to four points from two UEFA Nations League clashes, after previously earning an impressive draw in Poland.

Building on a superb start to the new term for his club now with his country, Muharemović was thrilled with his contribution and believes Bosnia have the tools at their disposal to see their noteworthy start to the international break continue.

“I mean it is always special to score for the national team,” the 23-year-old exclusively told leedsunited.com. “It is my second goal and I am really, really happy.

“I think it is a big moment for me, especially for my country, because we took the three points, played an amazing game and I am really happy.

“My thoughts on the two matches so far, it has been very positive. Two away games, four points. We can be really proud of it.

“Obviously, it is just the first step. We have now two big and important home games where we also want to take more than four points, so I hope we keep on going like this.”

Earning a first cap for his country fulfilled a lifelong ambition for Muharemović, as did representing his people at this summer’s FIFA World Cup. Now, looking to feature for the 20th time in the coming days, it is a novelty that will never wear off.

“To play for Bosnia is I think the biggest dream that I have achieved for myself,” he proudly added. “Especially as a kid, I was always dreaming to play next to Edin Džeko for Bosnia so it means everything.

“It is really, really a big thing and I am just honoured and proud to be a part of it. And I am just thankful, of course.”

Tarik will face a familiar face on Friday evening as they welcome Gabriel Gudmundsson’s Sweden to Zenica’s Bilino Polje Stadium. In three Premier League matches together in white this campaign, the duo have played an important role in maintaining an unbeaten start to the new term.

Now, teammates will become rivals. The tie will mean that little bit more to Tarik and his compatriots, he explained, as veteran forward Džeko will win his 152nd cap before retiring from international duty.

“Yeah, I will face Gabi on Friday and I just can’t wait to see him again. It is going to be a hard game and a good game. We will prepare well. We have good analysis so, yeah, we are ready.

“Obviously, we have a few days left but I can’t wait to play the game at home. Of course, we know it is also a sad day for us in Bosnia because our biggest player is having his last game and especially because of this, we want to achieve all three points.”
