Ilia Gruev played the full 90 minutes as Bulgaria were held to a goalless draw by Estonia in the UEFA Nations League.

The Leeds United midfielder, 26, operated in central midfield and completed his 29th appearance for Bulgaria in Tuesday evening’s Group C4 encounter in Plovdiv.

Gruev was among Bulgaria’s most influential players going forward, registering a game-high three shots.

His best opportunity came in the 69th minute when his left-footed effort from outside the box was saved by Estonia goalkeeper Karl Hein.

The midfielder also created one chance and finished the contest with 62 touches, 41 passes, three defensive contributions, one tackle, two interceptions and five recoveries, while winning four duels.

Bulgaria had the better of the possession and created 17 attempts to Estonia’s six, but neither side could find a breakthrough.

The result leaves Bulgaria with one point from their opening two Nations League matches, with a trip to Iceland on Saturday next on the agenda.
