Amy Woodruff returned to the top of the FA WNL Division One North goalscoring charts on Wednesday evening, netting twice as Leeds United Women defeated York City Ladies.

Speaking after the victory at the BD Community Stadium, the forward admitted the Whites were made to work hard for the three points, despite a strong first-half display.

"It was a relief, to be fair. We added pressure to ourselves in the second half, but in the first, we couldn't fault ourselves.

"What will obviously frustrate us about the second half is that we had a chat at the break about starting 0-0 again, and we didn't do that.

"Like Simon said at the end, it's good reflection and good learning for us. We kept moving forward, dug in, kept communicating and got over the line today.

"York came here tonight with a point to prove, and they did that," the forward praised the opposition. "They put us under pressure, but I think having that composure and getting the goals is great for the team."

Looking ahead to Sunday's FA Cup tie against Rotherham United Women, Woodruff ended: "It'll be another good test because it's a team we haven't come up against before.

"We know they've got great quality and strengths, but we're back at home. We don't lose here – that is the goal – and we get through to the next round on Sunday."
