Daniel James scored as Wales came from behind to beat Norway 2-1 in their UEFA Nations League clash at Cardiff City Stadium, with Ethan Ampadu also featuring for the full 90 minutes.

Oscar Bobb gave Norway an early lead after 11 minutes, but Wales responded strongly and Leeds United winger James levelled before half-time.

The 28-year-old was in the right place at the right time on 38 minutes, sliding in to meet Sorba Thomas’ cross and guide the ball beyond goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland.

James continued to pose a threat after the interval and was involved in a pivotal moment just seconds into the second half, when Norway defender Torbjørn Heggem was shown a straight red card for bringing him down as he looked to break through on goal.

Neco Williams stepped up to take the resulting free-kick and fired home to complete the turnaround for Craig Bellamy’s side.

James was withdrawn after 76 minutes, having registered two shots on target, created two chances and completed 21 of his 23 passes for a 91 per cent passing accuracy. He also won two duels and made four recoveries during an influential attacking display.

Ampadu anchored the Wales midfield throughout the contest, playing the full match and playing a key role in helping his side protect their advantage.

The Leeds midfielder made 101 touches and completed 89 passes, giving him an impressive 96 per cent passing success rate. He also recorded two tackles, one clearance, one interception and eight recoveries, while winning two duels.

Wales held firm during the closing stages despite Norway pushing for an equaliser, securing their first victory in the Nations League and their first win in League A of the competition.
