Women set for FA Cup First Round tie against Rotherham United

Whites take on Millers in cup competition.

Leeds United Women will host Women's FA Cup action this Sunday, welcoming tier-below Rotherham United Women to the BD Community Stadium for the First Round.

The Whites and Millers were drawn against each other at the start of October, with Leeds booking their place in the tie following a comprehensive victory over Stockton Town Ladies in the Third Round Qualifying.

Simon Wood’s side progressed in convincing fashion, with Alice Hughes claiming the match ball after scoring a hat-trick. Brittany Sanderson, Abi Coley, Darcie Greene and Drew Greene also found the net as Leeds recorded an emphatic victory.

The Whites will be keen to return to winning ways after FA WNL Division One North title rivals AFC Fylde Women held them to a goalless draw last time out.

Described as a “game of two halves” by defender Emily Cassidy, the contest saw the hosts put Leeds under pressure in the first half before the visitors looked the more likely winners after the break, with both sides ultimately settling for a fair point.

The result brought an end to Leeds’ impressive 10-game winning streak, with Wood’s side now looking to get back on track against the Millers.

Rotherham booked their place in the First Round with a dominant 4-0 victory over Spennymoor Town. Two goals from Stacey Buxton, a penalty from Hannah McWilliams and a composed finish from Laura Bartup secured progression.

Action from the BD Community Stadium gets underway at 2pm.
