Leeds United midfielder Ilia Gruev captained Bulgaria to a 2-0 victory over Luxembourg in their UEFA Nations League meeting on Tuesday evening.
Gruev played the full match at Stade de Luxembourg as Bulgaria secured their first win of the campaign. Kristiyan Balov opened the scoring in the 19th minute, before Atanas Iliev doubled the visitors' advantage 15 minutes later.
The 26-year-old produced a disciplined display in the heart of Bulgaria's midfield, helping his side protect their lead after the interval.
Gruev recorded 48 touches and completed 31 accurate passes, while also making six defensive contributions. His work without the ball included one tackle, three clearances, two interceptions and three recoveries, while he won three duels.
The result moves Bulgaria to four points from their opening four matches in Nations League Group C4.
For Gruev, it was another full-match outing during the international break, having also started The Lions' games against Estonia and Iceland, as well as their earlier encounter with Luxembourg.
