Whites forward Joël Piroe has been selected to represent Suriname for the first time in their bid for World Cup qualification against Bolivia.
Last season’s top scorer has featured on 17 occasions for Daniel Farke’s side this season, recently converting an excellent strike in a 3-0 win over Norwich City in the Emirates FA Cup.
Ahead of going on international duty, the forward told leedsunited.com how proud he is to be called up to his national side.
“It means a lot, I cannot wait for it. My family and friends will all be watching, I know how proud they will be as well. I just cannot wait for it!
“If we can achieve what we want to achieve, then we will all be able to fulfil a dream of playing in the World Cup. There is work to do but we will give it everything to try and make it.”
On linking up with his international teammates, Joël added: “I do know quite a lot of players but there are also some players that I will get to know.
“It is going to be really nice to get the shirt on, get out there and represent the country.”
If Suriname beat Bolivia, they will then face Iraq on Tuesday 31st March for a place at this summer’s FIFA World Cup.
